Quizzes have always been a cheap way of pulling in audiences for television and we all have our favourites.

QI is quite a good "comedy" quiz which not only provides an income for professional panellists like lard-bucket Phil Jupitus (is he really a comedian? And there was I thinking that being funny was a pre-requisite!) and Rory McGrath (is he really a comedian? And there was I thinking that being funny was a pre-requisite!) but nevertheless it can be quite entertaining mainly because it is chaired by Stephen Fry, who seems to be very good at everything he does.

Did you see Rory McGrath on QI? His knowledge is amazing
The panellists on it don't all have to be comedians. They just have to say something "Quite Interesting"

Comedic value aside, Rory McGrath is a well educated man and something of a raconteur. He lives, or at least used to live in the same street as one of my brothers in Cambridge and held court in the pub on the corner quite regularly back in the 80s.

My criticism of some of the panellists, not just in QI bit also in similar shows like Never Mind the Buzzcocks is mainly because they've spent so many years as panellists that people forget what they started out as, and where their talent lies. I can't remember anything that Jupitus has ever done, I've only seen him in quizzes, the same as Nick Hancock, Mark Lamarr and many others who are termed as "comedians"!

Play Your Cards Right or The Golden Shot. In fact anything with Brucie or Monkhouse the undesputed kings of the quiz!

Yes, so much so I suspect the contestants are at least tipped off what to expect beforehand, much in the same way as Have I Got News For You. Fry was too generous giving him 100 points for knowing the most prolific metal in the body was calcium! Even I knew that! And I cannot forgive McGrath for supporting Arsenal!
