Going back to the original point(s), I can't think of any product that I have actually purchased 'cause I saw it on telly. But advertising/sponsorship doesn't really work that way. Yes, it is quite subliminal. Us poor consumers are always more likely to buy products whose names we are familiar with.

I myself feel distinctly "uneasy" when shopping in Aldi or Lidl

I obviously have been totally conditioned by these evil manipulative sods.

I like the quote by an advertiser that only 50% of advertising works - but they don't know which 50% so they keep chucking all the rubbish at us as well as the good stuff.

* (insert any percentage values you like into that statement, the point is still the same)

Steve

Ad people think they're so clever at patronising the rest of us, but the damage a duff advert or sponsorship can have on a product can take many years to repair. If I'd created a decent TV series, not rubbish like Coronation Street and The Bill, but a really good drama I would be loathe to let it be sponsored by some rubber cheesemaker anyway, because people would assume that the programme was cheesy too! Better to flog it to the BBC and run the risk of it being ruined by wooden acting instead!
