I saw Class of 76 this week starring Robert Carlysle and was disappointed to say the least. It was the same in a long line of dreadful drama series in recent years, with acting so wooden you could make tables out of it, policemen who were just naff characters, a plot as old as the hills, and the whole thing was a lesson in how not to make a TV drama! What idiot gives the go ahead to make such amateurish rubbish? Did anyone like it by the way?

I have to agree with you Fran. I think Carlyle is an excellent actor (usually) but he was awful in this. It was as if he just couldn't be bothered. Just a pay day for him I guess. New extension on the house or something. He's much better than that.
Cheers,
A

It's from my favourite non-Hammer horror film from 1974. The acting in it was very wooden indeed (and that's without even a stake through the heart scene). The two leading actresses Marianne Morris and Anulka Dziubinska had their lines dubbed in their entirety even though they were both native English speakers, but I am sure their other attributes made up for a lack of acting experience! The story is very baffling and has no credibility, bearing no resemblance whatsoever to the original vampire story theme, apart from the fact that they have to stay out of the sunlight. For some strange reason I still like it for its low budget English charm and its creepy location in a big old house somewhere on the outskirts of London!

I think the shower scene is very 'artistic'

The film is now part of a horror boxed set called Box of Blood, which has a clear plastic pouch of fake blood as part of the cover (I assume it's fake). I've had a copy of the Anchor Bay release of the film for ages and having watched it a few times (purely for study purposes of course) the story is still a bit wierd. It's a lot more gory than the average horror of the period, and there are plenty of 'artistic' scenes like the shower, but they were obviously crucial to the plot (as the director probably told the girls with such sincerity and conviction)!

For some reason Marianne Morris reminds me of a curvier vesion of my favourite female rock goddess Chrissie Hynde.

It's not a bad little movie to be honest, it takes the Hammer Lesbian Vampire film formula - adds copious amounts of nudity and violence.

Harry Kumel's Daughter of Darkness is another well worth tracking down, and a much better film in my opinion. Delphine Seyrig why do you haunt me so.....

This might upset those north of the border, but I wish Caryle had dropped the Scottish accent (or is it Scotch) for the part. I have to agree the drama was pretty absymal. Couldn't understand most of it, and someone please tell me why did Monroe had to tell porkies ('Tell 'em I'm sick') in order that he could go off to interview persons involved with the Class of 76?

Evenso, I think even in this dire rubbish, Caryle's talent still shone through.

It's funny that nude lesbian sex scenes have been accepted in films for many years, so when are we girls going to see some nude men on men action? It would appear that the sight of an erect male would be too much for the censors, and I assume most of them are blokes and so naturally they don't mind seeing women doing things to each other! In the context of the vampire movie the male member has a pretty major artery supplying it with blood and so Count Dracula would probably get more fun and just as good a flow of blood supply from biting into this than the boring old neck, and make it a more entertaining film!
