Well ITV4s early evening slots are looking fantastic. They are showing some old favourites including Department S, Jason King, The Protectors, The Persuaders and The Saint. Have a look over at ITV.com. They launch 1st November.

Cheers,
A

Unfortunately, they seem to deteriorate pretty quickly into what are laughingly called reality shows and football.

And why on earth must they combine soaps and drama as if they are a single genre - the only connection I can see is that they both have five letters.

You'll be giving up the hiking boots and buying a surf board next!

I think the more Freeview channels the better because we're getting rid of the cable service once and for all, and I don't want Sky either (I'd rather save the money and pay for something useful like food and electric).

I don't mind repeats of things that aren't repeated very often; The Baron, The Saint, Dept S, Jason King because although not all of them were rock solid on the acting and drama front, they had a certain ITC feel to them which was similar to British films of the same period. Seeing actors in their youth before they became well known is also enjoyable, plus the cars, fashions and hairstyles of course. The down side will be if they start repeating more recent series that do not have the same endearing qualities; Bad Girls, Thief Takers, Wire in the Blood and all the other half baked ideas that have flooded the screen in recent years!

Plus anything repeated with Jenny Agutter in it is okay by me!

Would love to get rid of Sky - and will try to do so as soon as my daughter leaves home.

Too true

I like this quote from the poet Don Paterson in the Independent at the beginning of the year

[On being pipped for the Whitbread Prize]
"So I didn't win 25 grand. But I did see Jenny Agutter...
... Jenny Agutter! Paddy McAloon had a deep understanding of her place in the groin of my generation, and once had Jenny do a cruel wee voiceover on a Prefab Sprout song where she says, "I want to have you" over and over - knowing it would bring us all to our knees again with the same unworthy, filthy desire as we had experienced upon our first short-trousered encounter with Walkabout or Equus.
"

And not just his generation!

Was the song 'Wild Horses'?I can only remember her saying it say twice.
It certainly worked for me though!
By the way,are we allowed to say 'groin' on this forum?Oops,I said it once, but I think I got away with it.

Cheers

Saw ITV4 was sharing Men and Motots for some time last night but couldn't find it on Sky around 6'ish tonight.

'twas indeed Wild Horses. Of course, I only bought the cd because Prefab Sprout are also from NW Durham.

Perhaps we should have a contest to see who can hear it most times

Spoke to my brother and he said Sky had denied ITV4 an EPG slot till next week (maybe a spoiler tactic) and that he'd seen it in the 800's!

You can get ITV4 on your Sky digibox now via the ADD CHANNELS facility.

Go to SERVICES, then down to SYSTEM SET-UP, then to ADD CHANNELS. Enter a frequency of 10.758, a polarisation of V, a symbol rate of 22.0 (use left and right arrow buttons), and a FEC of 5/6, then select FIND CHANNELS. From the list that appears, select 10072 and press the yellow button, then press SELECT to store. You can then access ITV4 via the SERVICES menu on OTHER CHANNELS. To quit the channel, press SERVICES.

Give it a go - if I can get it to work, anyone can!!!

Top notch tip Pam! I'd never seen those options before, but it certainly works!

Thankfully I have a digital TV and a freeview box anyway, so I didn't miss the shows last night. Rather annoyingly, they are transmitting the old shows in the same non-compliant DVD mode as More4. That doesn't matter to those who record direct to standalone DVD-Recorders, but to people like me who record to a PC hard disk drive it is seriously bad news. The captured prog has to be reprocessed to convert it into DVD format, and this takes typically 5 hours for a 45 minute show like Department S. Drag! I may have to buy another PC just for converting all those episodes.
