One British comedy gem I was lucky to find on television this year was the series 'Early Doors'.
Co.written by and starring Craig Cash (Royale Family) I thought the series was genuinely funny.
The series revolves around a great bunch of northern character's who frequent 'The Grapes' pub. The conversation's between them are very funny. The script's are full of classic one liners that are fired out so quickly that you sometimes have to watch the program again to catch them all. A terrific series which is Brit comedy at it's best.
Does anyone know whether there will be a third series made?

Dave.

I don't know about a third series but I've yet to see all of the others! It was on a Wednesday night the last time it was broadcast and I kept forgetting about it so all in all I've only seen about three or four episodes. I wish the BBC would go back to putting good comedy on a Monday at 9pm slot on BBC2, you know where you are then!

There was a rumour that a spin-off was going to be made featuring the two lazy bent coppers from the series, but I think they are great characters in the context of Early Doors, I don't think they would stand up on their own.

All in all a very enjoyable programme featuring some very good character actors which is a refreshing change from a lot of the new "look at us aren't we funny?" kind of stuff that seems to pop up all the time now!

Dave

According to sitcom.co.uk,a third series has been commissioned for 2006.
Let's hope that's true.
I enjoy the combination of character-led comedy and the recycling of old jokes and 'Viz' humour.
It also has a nice touch of warmth and humanity without going OTT.
Add to that a fantasy figure for gentlemen of my age - Tanya the occasional barmaid, played by Susan Cookson. What more can a man want - a sexy woman who works in a pub -although I understand that Australians prefer a nymphomaniac who owns a pub!

Cheers

Hi Jacky,

Many thanks for the 'Early Doors' good news.
Australian men usually aim a bit higher when looking for a female - they'd prefer a rich nymphomaniac who owns a brewery.
There's a lot of celebrating here at the moment after Australia qualified for next year's World Cup (beating Uruguay).
After the match I saw one guy with the T-Shirt "This Is Better Than Sex". To the sport's loving Aussie that could very well be true but you would never see any normal Aussie guy say that ANYTHING was better than beer!

Cheers

Dave.

The other good news is that it was on UK TV Gold last night, but unfortunately it was one of the few episodes I'd seen before (the one about the mother wanting to go to Crete with her son).
