The Worst Week of My Life

Series 2 started a week last Thursday I think and I managed to catch the first episode with the granny's funeral debacle. I then forgot it was on last week so I've stuck a reminder on the telly not to miss it this week.

If you haven't seen it before it is very good and quite funny. The quality of the cast is top drawer with a brilliant Geofrrey Whitehead and Alison Steadman as the in-laws plus great performances by Janine Duvitski, Ronald Pickup and John Benfield.

It's almost like Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em crossed with One Foot In The Grave and Chance in a Million.

I agree Sam.It really draws me in.
I find that I squirm in anticipation of the next horrific cock-up that Ben Miller's character is going to perpetrate, very similar to my reaction to Victor Meldrew,Frank Spencer and Tom Chance.
He also has that capacity to turn a difficult situation into a complete calamity - a sort of car-crash comedy - and Geoffrey Whitehead's frosty but passive displeasure is a joy.

Cheers

And nobody felt they should mention Sarah Alexander?
She's the best reason for watching anything on television, just in case she walks past in the background.

You're dealing with genuine comedy analysts here,Steve.
We are far too busy studying comedic style and nuance to be concerned with eyeing up nubile female cast members.
What about Rachel Blanchard in the last series of PEEP SHOW?

I think the last time I saw Geoffrey Whitehead on television was in an episode of Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em . He played Peter Osborne to the late Norman Chappell's Mark Faraday in an episode called "Love Thy Neighbour". Looking at the IMDB,he has done a lot of television since.

Ah, but that's it. Sarah does very good comedic performances as well as just looking gorgeous.
Smack the Pony, Coupling, and many others.

This is the first programme I've seen her in and she's very good. Her character has got that bewildered expression on her face as if she's desperately trying to ignore the fact that she may have married a complete idiot!

You've never seen Smack the Pony? A great sketch show that proves that (some) women can be very funny.

You've never seen Coupling? Rush out and buy the DVDs. It's one of the best written shows on TV in the last few decades. It's like Friends except that it's laugh-out-loud funny and they dare to talk about sex.

I've led a sheltered life. I only started watching TV a lot this last year or so! Before that it was about the 1980s when I last took an interest. In fact before I got married I never owned a TV, just a decent stereo!

As you've no doubt discovered, there's a lot of rubbish on TV these days, even more so with all the extra channels coming online. But if you're selective in your viewing, then there are still some real gems being made.

My method is to go through the Radio Times soon after it comes out on the Tuesday of the week before. Mark every programme that looks interesting, and record them. Then, when I play them back, if they're not as interesting as I thought they might be I can easily skip on to the next one. I can skip the adverts as well.
