Cool

I have been an avid fan of The Simpsons and whilst it is all American,I often find a bit of British popular culture in it. Apart from their visit to London and the appearance of Tony Blair (why should a great man want to share screen time with a one dimensional,comic buffoon is beyond me,but then again I suppose Homer can choose his own friends ),there have been other notable tributes to us.
Milhous and his Tellytubby underpants (and they have also been seen chasing Homer);
A reference to the former Thames television logo;
Two references to Andy Capp (Hartlepool lad):Homer lying on the sofa,Capp style "Mmm,that Capp feller got it right" and Homer reading the paper "Andy Capp,the wife beating drunk"
In Marge's Christmas broadcast to Britain,Lisa barges in with a banner saying "Free Cornwall,now" (about Cornwall's hope for independence);
Bart sometimes puts on a cockney accent (better than Dick Van Dyke's ).
I wonder if Matt Groening was ever influenced by British humour,or spend a bit of time over here?

He's a self-confessed Python fan but I think Phil Silvers and the likes of Laurel and Hardly have had greater influence on the show. Whenever Brits are used in the show it tends to be the Cholmondley Warner stereotype. (as in the butler to Ringo Starr and Lisa's husband)

The Irish tend to be Groening's favoured stereotype and have been sent up mercilessly.

I have never understood why the crook Snake talks with a posh RP accent!

Still, Grounskeeper Willie doesn't half bug my Scottish friends which more than compensates.

Cool

I always enjoy the one where someone goes to the dentist (Ralph ? Lisa?) and they put up a fight. As a warning about what could happen they are shown...

The Big Book of British Teeth.

Only last year,I remember reading that the makers of The Simpsons had remarked that if they ever made live version of the show,they would cast American actor William H Macy as Ned Flanders . Watching an old episode of Morse today,I saw the ideal person to play Montgomery Burns - he has the looks and the voiceur very own Ian McDiarmid (the emperor in Star Wars).
Sorry - no photos available. Can anyone oblige?
