According to The British sitcom guide...

http://www.sitcom.co.uk/news.shtml

The ubiquitous Ant & Dec have a "new" sitcom up their sleeves.

Apperently they haven't settled on a title yet but the plot seems vaguely familiar...

Ant & Dec Sitcom - Unknown Title (ITV)

ITV rating sensations Ant and Dec have announced they are talking to Granada about staring in their own sitcom. The likable hosts of the hit shows "Pop Idol", "I'm A Celebrity...", "Saturday Night Takeaway" and "Gameshow Marathon" have had meetings with TV bosses about a new show which is based loosely on their own life stories.

In the new sitcom they will play old school buddies. They lose contact with each other, then meet up just as each of them reaches a crossroads in their life. Ant's character has given up his job as a crew member on posh yachts and decides to sleep on Dec's sofa. Dec's character is single, having been dumped by his girlfriend.

Ring a bell anyone?

Not more exposure for those ghastly little men. They are not the remotest bit funny so putting them in a sit com would be rather pointless because they can't act either! Rather than subject us to all that pain as viewers can't the TV people just write them a cheque and tell them to go away?

My main problem with Twat and Dick, sorry, I me Wank and Duck......er...no Ant and Dec, is that they are so far up their own arses, they actually believe they're funny.

They did a remake of No Hiding Place for A Tribute to the Likely Lads, and yes it was dreadful. Maybe some tv exec has decided to run with the idea.

Whatever happened to all those great comedy double acts that Britain was once famous for?
Can't say that I've heard of any worthwhile Brit double acts for years.
With the current trend being towards stand-up solo comedy routines, has this maybe resulted in the demise of the slapstick stage comedy routine between the straight man and the fall guy?
Although in the case of Ant and Dec they both seem to be playing the straight man.

It would be interesting to see just how many people bother watching terrestrial TV these days. Apart from the types of people addicted to nightly soaps, I don't believe that anyone is really interested in seeing the likes of Ant and Dec in any capacity! If there was an honest viewing survey carried out I am guessing that the directors of ITV and BBC would be so stunned at the results they would be forced to resign!

I can't think of any terrestrial programmes I watch on a regular "must see" basis, not one! The Freeview channels now seem to be my first choice for old cop and drama shows etc. and I've cancelled my cable subscription because I hardly ever watched any of those channels!

Terrible. Not content with making us watch them 'wreck the mike', we now have to endure them wrecking my favourite sitcom.

There are positive arguments for genocide.

At the risk of throwing the cat in among the pigeons, I don't mind Ant & Dec.

They are middle-of-the-road light entertainment fare with a casual, easy attitude and are probably the choice of millions of Grannies all over the country.

As for the remake.....well, it will be the same as all the others.

If it is good it will have to tread a different path to the original in order to retain some kind of identity of its own.

And if it is bad (a far more likely scenario) it will disappear into the same bargain bucket tv oblivion as Paul Merton's misguided attempt at Hancock.

....there.....(i'm going to duck now)

As presenters, I've always considered them a talentless pair of t*ssers to be honest. However, their local pub in Chiswick is a hostelry I frequent far too often, and I can confirm they are very friendly to the 'stargazers' who interrupt their drinking. They are always very cheery and smiley and generally consdered in the pub to be good people. Doesn't make me like their output though, and if this sitcom gets the green light, I'll serruptitiously trip the little bleeders as they walk past!

Oh yes, I'm so connected to the great and good! My other "celebrity" namedrop is Helena B-C - I have a nice story about her which I witnessed first hand a few years ago (not one of yer eight degrees of separation-type stories) but as she can afford expensive solicitors, that'll have to wait until we have a forum drink up!
