He belongs to the school which believes by bullying, posturing, intimidating and talking the loudest means his opinion is always correct. I find his rhetoric bombastic and blinkered and I absolutely despise the way he makes "short" jokes about his co-presenter on Top Gear. He was singlehandedly responsible for killing the jeans industry ten years ago when teenagers saw a pot-bellied permed-haired tosser on TV wearing ridiculously tight ball-strangling snow-denims. The industry is only just recovering.

I would gladly smack him one in the teeth should our paths cross. I would be doing the human race a big favour.

You can summise from that he was not on my Xmas card list!

Yeah, I'm certain if he could get away with wearing a posing pouch outside his kecks, he would. His arrogance is quite awesome.
Having said that...I've seen a couple of his documentaries, 'The Victoria Cross – For Valour' and 'Great Britons - Isambard Kingdom Brunel' and I was really impressed, reeaally impressed with his enthusiasm and presentation.
....and having said that...he still needs a good slap on a daily basis by somebody with hands the size of pit-shovels.

Thing is, those are exactly the sort of shows you would expect him to present! Those, and Maggie Thatcher and "Great Daily Mail Editors of our Time" type documentaries. Can't imagine him presenting something requiring sensitivity and humility.

I agree with your comments, I enjoyed both those excellent programmes too, I can’t really understand how anyone could be sneering about either of these two topics either

I get the feeling that Clarkson is an intelligent man who realises that by appealing to the lowest common denominator is sure of a nice fat wedge!

Top Gear is just awful those two co-presenters are if anything even more vile than Clarkson, fawning at the great mans feet. The audience are a sight too I wonder how many souped up Vauxhall Nova’s with bling wheels and black windows are in the car park.

Happy Christmas!

Christ man you don't half talk some ignorant shite (Sam Kidd this is aimed at).

Your raving is so filled with ludicrous inaccuracies I wouldn't even know where to begin going about setting them right. Just as well that I really can't be arsed. What would be the point anyway? I wasn't aware of the Hurricane Katerina thread while it was going on (and I wouldn't have pitched in because a movie site is hardly the place) but only found it after you'd come crawling back wondering were my friend Wetherby Pond had gone. (He's fine by the way, went away on holiday at that moment and has been really busy since. Just so you know.) You were full of ignorant shite then too. And deaf to reason. Wetherby and I might be quite different politically (alright, very) but at least we're open to rational debate.

That said, I do enjoy from the heart posts, and yours are certainly that. And also you do use apostrophes properly, unlike some people whose posts I can barely read.

Merry Christmas!

Ok I will take the bait!! I absolutely love Jeremy Clarkson beause apart from being a very amusing writer and broadcaster he's a man's man who calls a spade a spade and has no time for the bullshit and dogma that the world is so full of. Lets face it - most of the cars made today have no individuality and are dull as ditchwater and yet they cost billions to develop, employ huge teams of designers for years and the end product has no artistic merit or soul whatsoever. Contrast this with say a TVR Griffith which was designed by three men in about 6 months and it's utterly gorgeous - one of the most beautiful cars ever designed.
Much of what Clarkson complains about is the increasingly sterile and risk averse nature of the modern world where the government and other influential bodies try to perpetually legislate to stop us doing things when really what we need is a society where people self-regulate because they are considerate to others as a matter of course. Clarkson hates the max power chavs incidentally and all the pople I know who watch Tope Gear or who have been to the studio are into 'proper' cars e.g Aston, MG, Morgan, TVR, Ferrari, Lotus etc - not souped up Astras.

Clarkson complains about the whole speed camera thing because the truth is they have made no statistical difference to the accident rate on the roads (unlike seatbelts which have). The government has spent billions whch could in effect have been better spent on road improvement, schools, NHS etc and now spends most of its time producing spuriously argued research papers. Clarkson is right to challenge this. Just as an aside I spent about 15 years eating margerine because the 'experts' told everyone butter was bad for you. Now after years of forcing myself to eat something I hated the taste of it turns out it contains something called 'trans-fats' which are far far worse for you than the saturated fat in butter and cause massively higher risk of heart disease. I'm sick to the back teeth of people like that telling us what to eat and then being proved wrong and it's that kind of faceless sheep mentality Clarkson fights.

I also think that his love for British innovation and invention - jet engines, steam, railways etc etc is something all too rarely celebrated. ANy man who has a lightning jet fighter in his front garden can't be all bad can he??

Finally Top Gear is intended to be entertaining and thought provoking. It is to a degree automotive pornography to make you feel good at the end of the weekend. Frankly I'm not that interested in the difference between the new Astra and Escort, the same way as I'm not interested in seeing nude pictures of Anne Widdicombe or Ena Sharples - such things are commonplace. Seeing the beauty of the new Aston Martin V8 Vantage however is something rare and special - it is automotive art at the highest level the same way Judy Geeson is feminine beauty at the highest level. Clarkson's gift is that he realised there are millions of us out there who enjoy seeing cars we could never possibly afford - why should relishing these things not be available to the masses? How does this differ from appreciating impossibly beautiful women who one could never date? I might fantasize about kissing Judy Geeson the way I fantasize about driving the Aston and I achieve one of these vicariously through Clarkson every week!!

Gosh - just wondered what it would feel like to be kissing Judy Geeson in the seat of an Aston Martin on a perfect Summers day mmmmh

Better go, before this gets out of hand!

So that's 'the truth' you present' is it. Can you back this point up with statistics? I would really like to know how much the seatbelt has affected the accident rate. I understand that it has had the effect of reducing injuries but I had not realised that it had also affected the number of accidents that had taken place. I suppose it could be that more lunatic drivers survive accidents to go on to have more accidents.

I'd say Sam's comments are justified because Clarkson is a bigot and a braggart. Having read a highly inaccurate and technically flawed column of his in Top Gear magazine a while ago, I wrote to JC personally to point out his inadequacies as both a motoring journalist with zero technical knowledge, and as a human being with no original opinions of his own whose writing style is stolen straight from various episodes of Blackadder!

Needless to say he didn't have the guts to reply! Had he said the wrong thing to the wrong person when he was 18 and been beaten senseless for his trouble, perhaps he would be a better person today! But no, a spoiled brat who always gets his own way is what we have, and having free will I just don't buy Top Gear magazine anymore, or watch any of his programmes, and thankfully I've never bought The Sun newspaper anyway!

Feeling a little liverish are we? Too many glasses of last year's dusty old bottle of Harvey's Bristol Cream on Christmas morning? Well unlike some I don't hold grudges so please feel free to criticise anything I post, while you can, but pah-lease, only after reading it first!

Members do post non-film related topics in the general discussion section so we've already been through that hoop, so I think whoever posted it was right to do so. With so much injustice in the world, with people's lives in the hands of a few powerful men you can't blame me and others for lashing out at them, and even a movie forum can be a legitimate place to get things off your chest!

I dislike Jeremy Clarkson intensely - I hate his school bully attitude. The Isambard Kingdom Brunel thing he did was good, but who could go wrong with such an interesting topic? Bloody Alan Davies - he was rubbish at presenting a case for John Lennon - so he would have gone wrong presenting it. Jeremy Clarkson. IK Brunel. It would have been better without him in it (Clarkson not Brunel). By the way, there was a superb cartoon about Isambard Kingdom Brunel, a musical thingy which was so bloody impressive... great animation. I hate the Daily Mail too. Anyway, I agree with those who hate his posturing, bullying, arrogant persona, and those who like him can have him as he is employed with alarming regularity to present stuff. I switch him off, because I can. That's what you do when you don't like what's on - then you vent your fury on a discussion board, because you can...

I see Clarkson's sidekick Richard Hammond is presenting The Five O'Clock Show next week, replacing the Paul O'Grady slot.
Personally,I don't mind Clarkson, but I do respect the views of those who dislike him. The title of Top Gear should be changed as it is now basically The Jeremy Clarkson Show and I would like to see some of his chums from the old show make an appearance such as Tiff (what is Tiff short for) Needell,Nicky Butler Henderson and Michelle Newman .
Again, lads and lasses,I respect your views.
