Can any geriatrics amongst you remember the delightful chess masterpieces that used to turn up on TV in the late 50s early 60s. A game of chess was reinacted using real chess pieces with the stop film camera technique. They were in Black & white of course and lasted about 15 minutes. Also the programme Time to remember, it started with a grandfather clock ticking loudly and went on to show films much like Mitchell & Kenyon. The programme had a narrator and the whole thing was very atmospheric indeed.

YES, i remember them being shown in the 60s and I must say that they seemed old fashioned even then.

I cant imagine todays chess playing youngsters being very impressed.

The piece movements were animated and the commentary a little on the dour side.

They were all quite short games in which several piece sacrifices led to victory.

I think that the winning pieces carried the losing king off at the end of the game.

Its a great shame that this fasinating game is no longer featured on T.V. since Nigel Short

fell from the top of the world chess rankings. Though not the best suited game for T.V.

I feel that it would make a pleasent change from the moron fodder that litters todays

T.V. screens.
