Hi guys and gals

Does anybody else remember “The Gangsters”, a very politically incorrect T.V. drama series from the 70s? It touched on such thorny and controversial subjects as immigrant organized crime, Triad gangs, drug addiction, the C.I.A operating unchecked in this country, and even the IRA. It also had a psychedelic, catchy theme tune/song for good measure.

Elizabeth Cassidy played one of the main characters. I have only ever seen this lovely girl play one other part, as Roy Kinnear’s daughter in an episode of the Sweeny (the one about the theft of “old readies”).

This drama became more and more off the wall by the week. The surrealism reached a peak at the end of the final episode when Anne Darracot (played by Ms Cassidy) started to laugh part way through a serious line. She then turned to face the camera and said, “this has got to be the end”. The camera then pulled back to reveal the director, sound crew etc. The end credits rolled and that was it! Surely the strangest end to a series ever.

Any Gangster fans out there?

Any series endings stranger than this? Surely not.

Regards piroflip

I think this was explored before a while ago. It was a good tongue-in-cheek drama set in Brum and it did have a wierd ending. A better Brummie one I thought was Muck & Brass starring Mel Smith in a series which explored corruption that was (and still is) rife in local councils!

Talking of Muck & Brass (1982), what about Brass (1983)?

With the mine owner, the dastardly Bradley Hardcastle (Timothy West) and his dysfunctional family and the working class led by Agnes Fairchild (Barbara Ewing) and her heaving bosom.

A great show.

No need to apologise, I always repeat stuff myself so do a lot of folk, as well as starting on one topic and evolving it into a few others. I can't even remember what the Gangsters' thread started out as because I can't find it now, so don't worry about it.
