Thanks Barbara, I'll look forward to that, if you manage it. However, I'm not sure these are still what REALLY happened. There have been so many theories, but no-one can really prove for sure

I don't remember which book it was in but I remember something in a preface about all these people lined up who thought they knew who Jack the Ripper was and someone admits to being Jack the Ripper and they'll say "Who???"

I read something similar about Jack the Ripper being named at "The Last Judgement" I think the author might have been Martin Fido.

Jack The Ripper. Starring Michael Caine, Lewis Collins and Jane Seymour. Directed by David Wickes
Anyone remember this excellent made for TV mini-series with Michael Caine as Inspecrtor Fred Aberlaine leading the hunt for arguably the world's most notorious serial killer.

I've recently bought the 2002 DVD release.

One of the best Jack The Ripper films, if not the best. The ending is absolutely thrilling.

Did you know that Barry Foster - of Van der Valk fame - was originaly slated to play Inspector Aberlaine?

I agree that the programme was excellent, especially the bit wher Caine is questioning the cabby in the cells, and tells him to listen to every golden word he [Caine] says.

But good though the programme was, it can't beat Murder By Decree, a 1979 British-Canadian co-production. Starring Christopher Plummer and James Mason as Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson, it had everything: interesting theory (same killer i.e. William Gull, but renamed, and Masonic intrigue) beautiful, cinematography, haunting music and authentic sets.

Frank Finlay played Inspector Lestrade in this AND A Study In Terror, a 60s Sherlock Holmes-meets Jack the Ripper film, and the late Anthony Quale appeared in both, albeit as different characters.
