One last heads-up...on BBC4, Wednesday 9.00pm; a superb polemical documentary on British Silent Film, exploring why BSF has been denigrated for so long, what contribution BSF made to world cinema, and superb clips demonstrating quite how powerful and beautiful it could be. I was converted previously...this might help convert you if you are unfamiliar with British film pre-1929. watch, but don't forget to record as well....you will want this in your collection, I promise you.

Hello, Mark,

Thanks for keeping us informed about this excellent programme. The reports coming are wonderful. I understand that the number of viewers for the first programme was a record high. I hope you'll fill us in on more details, please? We are all ears.

The forthcoming films are splendid choices. I've only seen Piccadilly and can vouch for its excellence as well as the music.

Best,

Barbara

Really excellent, and I'm very much looking forward to these films.

My only criticism, a scurrilous one - Matthew Sweet looks like he might once have been the sort of boy one steered clear of in the school playground.....

I'm very pleased that these films and the era are being taken seriously at last. Thanks to Mark for drawing all this to our attention

Matthew's OK...he's one of the few journo's I know who will get his round in when not on expenses...he's not as bumptious in real life.!! He also has a brain the size of a planet, and can write too. His book on The Victorians is also recommended...
