Sadly I think not, to follow Deep Throat's dictum to Bob Woodward 'follow the money' we can see in the eighties that when AVBC and Gbh were made they were following precedents set with

Fortunes of War (87); Lost Empires(86); Oliver Twist(85); The Jewel in the Crown(84); Reilly: Ace of Spies(83); Boys from the Blackstuff(82); Brideshead Revisited(81)

A very simplistic idea I know but look at the cast list and in some cases the location shooting costs of the above. All for series which would only last a year. Looking through that decade courtesy of IMDb it is a golden period.

regards
Freddy

I have to agree. I can't think of any drama in the last 10 years that could hold its head up in their company - the last being Our Friends in the North from 1996.

A great shame

All the best
