Default Channel 4 showing Widescreen 2.35:1 films?

Just checked a DVD recording of a film that was on this afternoon: I COULD GO ON SINGING - Judy Garland, Dirk Bogarde, sixties drama musical Britflick - off of Channel 4 - and my jaw hit the floor in shock/surprise/pleasure... they broadcast it in glorious 2.35:1 widescreen, instead of their usual cropped 1.85:1.

Did anyone else notice? (stupid question)

Was it a one-off?
Was it a mistake?
Will Channel 4 do it again?

I hope so. Anyone know anything about this?

Ste

Well, anyone?

I'll guess I'll find out on Monday. They're showing The Quiller Memorandum, and I'm pretty sure that was shot in 2.35:1. Can't wait to see whether they show it like that.

Well, I recorded The Quiller Memorandum. Usually when a film changes from proper widescreen, it's the first shot/edit, after the director's name.

The first show was 2.35:1.

The second shot was 2.35:1... then it changed to 1.85:1!

Gutted. But I've ordered the DVD in 2.35, so I'm happy lol.
