Default Primeval

I caught a bit of this load of old codswallop last night and thought how evil it was to show it in prime time! Why is it that good acting and decent stories are sidelined these days on British television in preference to CGI and shallow characters with all the charisma of wheel clampers on piece work? Don't tell me let me guess, "It's to attract the kids!". Kids shouldn't be in on a Saturday evening anyway, they should be out drinking cans of off-licence lager and trying to look hard by smashing 'phone boxes, and intimidating elderly folk at bus stops, and spraying amateurish and un-talented graffiti on people's fence panels and pretending to be New York gangsta rappers in New Malden!

"...the chairman of Littlewoods stores made a Keynote speech!"

I caught the last 20 minutes of this, and ended up completely brain-numbed, that I didn't answer any of the questions on "Millionaire"!

I hasten too add, that I do not own a television and saw this at a friend's house.
It completely validated my reasons for not owning a T.V.

Cheers.

Just elbowing my way in amongst the curmudgeons at the bar to say -

I agree! At least with some of it.

I'm a fan of well written fantasy tv but this aint it. On the other hand I never particularly liked what came out of the DR WHO factory even when I was a kid back in the 60s.

The Americans don't always get it right - look at the charmless CHARMED - but series like BUFFY, DEAD LIKE ME and JOAN OF ARCADIA have set a whole new benchmark.

Isn't that comparison true though across the board? We once used to have the "least worst" tv in the world. Not any more.

Unhappy

I started watching it,and I thought it might be a good programme, but last night I gave up on it. I think television has had its fill of dinosaur programmes.

I think anything new should be applauded but there seems to be a certain clinical style to many modern British drama series where characters are just shallow and forgetable. Most people enjoy series like The Sweeney and more recently New Tricks and Life On Mars mainly because the characters, even some of the minor ones, are well constructed and credible.

To have a bunch of people in a team like on Waking the Dead, Vincent, Jericho, Hustle and similar 21st Century cobblers, none of them seem to stand out or have any sort of personality (many are usually played by ex-soapsters), and are so far up their own backsides that the viewer doesn't even like them or even remember the characters' names!

Research and accuracy are also important and a lot of the awful series are sadly lacking in both. Viewers find this very annoying, and if a TV company is going to spend all that money on making a drama they should at least put a bit of effort in to make sure that their writers are not taking the lazy way out by assuming that their audience are too stupid to notice horrendous inaccuracies and blatant fudging!

I don't have a problem with any of these series,I enjoy all three.I find it is helpful to factor in the intended audience and the genre they are working in.

I agree Primeval is utter twaddle, but there again most modern tv programmes want confining to the nearest dustbin anyway.
