Hi Sam -



There are some odd films floating round here wher I fell asleep and left the ads in, so if I can, I'll have a comparison test. Wasn't something deregulated when SKY became prevalent, to let the terrestrial channels have more or longer adbreaks ?



Anyone remember ?

Saw a top commercial for Visa for the first time on Cable the other day.

Starring Catherine Zeta Jones and a group of marauding orangatan's.

The monkey's got the banana's and I bet Catherine wasn't paid peanuts

As I say, the commercial's featuring animals are always heart stealers.

Anyone else seen the latest Visa ad?

Here is another one,of which I do not know the answer so I am looking to the wisdom of my fellow contributors tothis site. There is a public information film,currently on television,advising us of the no ends of what you can do with re-cycling. It is in green animation - who is doing the voice over?

I once asked that question in a quiz a few years ago - no one got it right,but when I read out the answer,all I got was "I don't think they're tasty". I must admit,I prefer Cornflakes.

I remember Ross Kemp doing Kellog's Fruit n' Fibre pre his Eastenders role miming to the following:



"It's breakfast time again hip hip hooray,

I eat Kellog's Fruit and Fibre every day.

There's hazelnuts, sultanas, bits of cow dung and bananas.......

Yes he's on to a Winner doing those ads, could keep him in new underwear for a few years.



I saw Ken Russell the other day in a book shop and I always used to get him mixed up with Michael Winner! Ken's not up to much these days, the last thing he made was a short film shot at his house with some friends or neighbours.



If I was fortunate enough to be in the film industry I'd want to be creating decent new work all the time, not be content with making home movies in my back garden! Alas after 20 years of trying to get through the cliques, old boy network and nepotism which is the British Film and Television Industry, I must confine myself to watching and whinging!

I see there has been over 400 complaints about the frog (ringtone),but the advertising watchdog can't do anything because the complaints were not about its containt. The makers of the advert - Jamblasting - are not bothered that it irritates people,saying that it is obviously catching people's attention and will insist it will be shown. I just wish I had enough money to buy a new television set everytime the frog and that cringe making sweety chick comes on



There is also a threat they will launch Harold Faltermeyer's Axl F Theme (nothing wrong with the actual theme) from the advert.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the ringtone market is bigger than the revenues of the Hollywood studios combined.

Not just kids. Did you notice in the Channel 4 "100 greatest war films", Richard Todd showing that he had the Dambuster's Theme as the ringtone on his phone. Classic movie themes are quite popular as ringtones. But I can't find anyone doing that piano progression that is a recurring motif in A Matter of Life and Death.

My cell phone is positively prehistoric (i.e. 12 months old). I'm sure the latest models allow .mp3 files to be used as ringtones - get one and you'll be able to get the theme to A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH into it quite easily!

I have met Ken Russell as well and did him a couple of copies on video when he had missed the showing of Potter's 'Karaoke' and 'Cold Lazarus'. I fail to understand why he seems to have been left out in the cold. When you consider such offerings as 'The Music Lovers' and 'Women in Love', although he did have some bad moments when I think about it... did anyone see 'The Lair of the White Worm'? Very disappointing to say the least

.



Not forgetting the beautiful b/w direction of ELGAR in 1962 and the contribution to ARIA along with Nic Roeg and Bruce Beresford whose Die Tote Stadt featured a young Liz Hurley.
