Whatever happened to Shirley Abicair, the Australian girl who was in several programmes in the 1950s?

Four years on from the last post, I think it's about time Shirley's thread was revived, beginning
with this nice publicity photo, rather vaguely dated "20th Century" at Rex Features (great):
Before my time, sadly. My introduction to Shirley Abicair was in the 'Where Are They Now?' section of the excellent book Box of Delights: The Golden Age of Television in the early 1990s. I later discovered that she recorded a version of The Beatles classic This Boy, entitled This Girl in 1967, which, like all her other singles, didn't chart in Britain unfortunately. I have it on the compilation CD All You Need is Covers: The Songs of The Beatles. A few years ago, I was surprised to hear her name mentioned by Norris in Coronation Street though I can't remember why. I think he may have been reminiscing with Rita in The Kabin.
Some interesting information from Shirley's pages at Wikipedia and whirligig, particularly that she was discovered after being photographed at London Airport and given her own show soon afterwards. A year later, she was starring with Norman Wisdom in the film One Good Turn. A swift rise to the top.

A shame I missed out, but, as ever, I will continue to catch up:
You Tube - Little Boy Fishin' (1957)
Thanks Widerman for starting this great thread. I have only ever seen Shirley in the Norman Wisdom film One Good Turn. A very glamouress actress indeed. She also has one of the most enchanting singing voices I have ever heard. Many thanks cornershop for the additional information and the great links.

I can remember seeing her on TV many times, she was rather like everyone's favourite schoolteacher. I doubt if I had seen a zither before she turned up on TV.
Here you are, wellend. A publicity photo for the 1955 movie:name='wellendcanons' date='10 July 2010 - 09:42 AM' timestamp='1278751356' post='449735']

And for Roger Thornhill*, a nice picture of Shirley with her zither:

Nice pics. She looks even lovelier in the second pic. Thanks cornershop.

Thanks for the picture, she certainly was a very sweet looking woman. Here are two more pictures from One Good Turn. This is the scene where she sang a song to some of the children while they were all on a train.

I'd love to hear her other records.
