    BBC Three revamps its schedules

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | BBC Three revamps its schedules

The channel is being given a new logo as part of the relaunch

BBC Three's shows are to be simulcast online as part of a revamp of the digital channel aimed at young viewers.

There will be a relaunch of its 60seconds news bulletin plus new dramas from Shameless writer Paul Abbott and Jamie Hewlett of pop group Gorillaz.

The second series of hit US show Heroes will premiere on BBC Three, which has also acquired US college drama Greek.

Existing programmes such as Gavin and Stacey, Pulling, Family Guy and The Real Hustle will all return.

The channel has promised six "outstanding original, single dramas" in the spring.

Among them is Phoo Action, a futuristic kung fu drama written by Hewlett and starring Ray Winstone's daughter Jaime.

Abbott has co-created Mrs In-Betweeny, which will feature Amelia Bullmore as the central figure in a family where one member has had a sex-change.

Heroes will be on BBC Three before its terrestrial screening

New entertainment shows will include The Wall and Upstaged, two live interactive shows that will aim to promote new talent.

The Wrong Door combines a sketch show format with computer-generated graphics.

And there will also be the debut of Lily Allen and Friends, the chat show fronted by the pop star behind hits such as Smile.

The 60seconds bulletins will get an overhaul, with new editions looking at global news, technology, entertainment and sport.

And documentaries in the spring will include Pramface Mansion, examining life as a single parent, and Jack's Story, which follows young British soldiers in Afghanistan.

The schedule was announced by Danny Cohen, the former head of factual entertainment at Channel 4 and E4, who was appointed controller of BBC Three last April.

Danny says that 'the brand 'BBC' doesn't connect with our target audience, so from early April the channel will be known as The ASBO Channel - our purpose being to provide entertainment for yoof restricted to home due to electronic tagging'......

BBC3 is bloody awful so it wouldn't take much to improve on the tripe they serve up. When Alan Partridge ('I'm Alan Partridge') was desperately trying to think of programme ideas in a cringeworthy attempt to impress Tony Hares, BBC3 decided to make them.
