I think he was from a less cynical, more family orientated age of tv. He seemed like a nice bloke and I thought the Gervais jibe particularly mean-spirited.

Sad, still quite young as well. He raised a great deal of money for, and did a lot of work for charities. Was made MBE in 2001 in appreciation of this.

I always thought of him as a family entertainer. I can't ever remember seeing him offend anybody or be rude to anybody.
According to something I read earlier, he allegedly raised about £100m for charity which, if true, is pretty remarkable.
I don't expect, after having cancer twice, that his immune system was able to fight the pneumonia - how very sad.
RIP Jeremy.
YDSL x.
very sad and no age at all RIP Jeremy
Thanks for your good work...RIP....
Aitch,
A good practical joker, often imitated, but never bettered. RIP Jeremy.

I liked Jeremy's programmes, they were always fun and warm hearted. RIP Mr Beadle.
Bats.
I have many fond memories of watching Jeremy on You've Been Framed (the best presenter by far) and Beadle's About. He was a great personality and a thoroughly nice chap if his huge amount of charity work is anything to go by.
Thank-you for the great memories Jeremy and God bless and keep you.
RIP Jeremy , I think the type of TV he was associated with was far superior to all the reality based dross presented to us today .
From comments made to me by people I know who worked at Granada TV ,he seemed a really nice bloke![]()
Very sad to hear about the passing of Jeremy. Jeremy raised millions of pounds for charity and even though he was ridiculed by most I thoroughly liked the guy and I always wondered what tricks he had up his sleeve.
We all have memories of certain actors, film stars or presenters, but my favourite memory of Jeremy was actually from an episode of Only Fools And Horses, the episode was Fatal Extraction where Del Boy bought a consignment of Russian camcorders and came rushing in with one singing "Watch Out Beadle's About" and had everyone in the audience in fits of laughter.
God bless you Jeremy you will be very fondly remembered.

Very sad news. I believe he had been very ill for some years.
We had not seen a lot of Jeremy on television over here in Australia for many years but he is well remembered for his "candid camera" style shows. They proved very popular here in Oz.

I'll second that.
What are the chances of the vicar at the memorial service pulling off his wig, glasses and huge false beard, stepping out of his voluminous cassock, to reveal the grinning, hugely popular TV entertainer, big microphone in hand ?
Watch out St. Peter! That's all I can say!

I believe that he kept his charity work quiet, he did not do a Geldof or a Bono and spout on about it. RIP Jeremy

what did Gervais say ??
It was a real shock to hear Jeremy Beadle had died. I remember him for being really clever and knowledgable. Anyone remember him hosting a quiz show where the contestants had to beat his general knowledge? If they did, I think he gave them a cash prize from his own pocket. But he was so good, I don't think many people did!
Good stuff.
I always liked him and in a similar way, Noel Edmunds. Both had early evening entertainment shows that never went out to offend people but both Jeremy & Noel have taken some shocking stick over the years.
I'm sure their good works have been appreciated by the beneficaries anyway. why do they get so much stick?

Sadly Harley, being kind and having good manners is now seen as a weakness by certain sections of society.
I'm open to being proved wrong here but in the soaps it does appear that those who display the above qualities are deemed weak, ineffectual and without personality.
When we have Tony Blair saying in the awful Katherine Tate sketch show 'Am I bovvered' well that says it all really.
Sorry to hijack JB's thread like that.
