Yao came into my head tonight. I seem to remember it was something about coming of age in an African tribe- the boys going off to become men - but I could be confused with the beginning of Roots. I found this link:

Don't know if I am doing this correct.

I remember Tivvy definately, the long haired as we called him a Gonk, who advertised the TV Times, I was one of the ones that made the record with the guy that spoke for him at Guy Fletchers studio, there was a picture of us in the TV Times, but that has long been lost us kids aged 10/11 in 1966. I don't remember the guys name that spoke as Tivvy, but I know he went through pints of water cause he had to speak and sing gruff. I have been trying to find the record that was made but just come to a blunt end, I know my Mum & Dad bought the record but lent it to someone cause they were proud of us and never got it back.

This is my 1st post and don't understand yet how to use this, but it would be great to hear from anyone that remembers Tivvy and maybe who was with me who made the record

name='KNOCK 3 TIMES']Yes still have my Tivvy gonk. he has black curly hair, green googly eyes, a red and white striped body and black arms which are more like wings. His feet are flat and black also. This is a 'proper' Tivvy. Not a pretend one as made by all the nans and aunties out of a toilet roll. He led the Junior TV Times club and if you joined you got a badge. He also had a record (45 rpm - not criminal) and he advertised the Trustee Savings Bank.

I also have the Tivvy annual with foreword by jimmy hanley.

Now, I've got that off my chest who remembers his girlfriend - Tovvy? She had her own Christmas annual too.

Am I sending this back correct to you

I know he made a record, I was one of the ones singing with him, crikey I was 10/11 at the time and the record I believe was called, Tivvy's Tune.

Do you know the guy that spoke for Tivvy, I know he had to speak very gruff, and drank loadsa water when we were making the tracking for the record.

    Hi Cornershop15

Hey that would be great it you could find the pic in there, its a group of us kids 10/11, girls and boys, cause we made the Tivvy record, I don't know the guy that talked for Tivvy, but it may have his name. Wow am I eventually getting somewhere. It is amazing how many people do not remember Tivvy the Gonk. Thankyou so much, I do hope you find it.

    Hello again,

I have looked through all the 1966 copies in my collection and it looks like bad news. It's only Jimmy Hanley's Tivvy column that I've checked so far and I'm hoping I might come cross what you're looking for on other pages. I'm not optimistic though.

Even if the picture isn't included in the issues I have, you might still have a chance of finding a copy on eBay. I'll look through all the pages just to make sure and if it's not there I'll supply a list of the dates I'm missing so we can track it down.

    Regards,

    Cornershop

This is an advert from the TVTimes dated 3-9 December 1966:

Hi, We had a house full of Tivvy merchandise in the mid sixties including 'Sumpi' and the single.

The reason we had so much stuff was because I think my father, who was a broadcaster, (John Ebdon) provided the voice for Tivvy. Unfortunately he died a while ago so I can't check, but I'm fairly sure he was connected with the ad,

    Hope that helps,

    James

Hello James. Interesting information about your Tivvy collection, which I hope you still have. Can you give me a few career details about your father? I'm not sure if I've come across his name before. Are you any relation to snooker player Peter Ebdon, who I think hails from Northampton?

There is a nice picture of Ken Dodd and 'Diddy' David Hamilton with Tivvy at the former's thread if you're interested.

    Hi,

sadly the collection did not survive the ravages of time and housemoving, and were probably weren't viewed with posterity in mind!

No relation to Peter (as far as I know), but my father's details and obituary come up if you Google his name

Lostontape and sedmkvetna: I can only add my memories to yours. I am pretty sure that it aired late afternoon/early evening and in short episodes (15/20mins). Po the Pygmy was the only other character I remember and was a name latterly given to a short friend - he went by the name Po for several years. Dialogue was spartan at best and probably dubbed or subbed. Until reading your comments I believed I was the only fool who remembered or possibly dreamt it.

On the matter of Tivvy, I'm fairly certain there was a comic strip featuring that character, maybe in TV Comic or perhaps in the TV Times itself?

I remember this one too, an animated film as the wheels gradually fell off and the cowboys being chased by Cherokees?

Three Wheels On My Wagon was a staple of Two Way Family Favourites as well - I don't remember a TV version. I recently discovered that the music for the song was written by none other than Burt Bacharach!

I vividly remember the Banaana Boat song - Too loud man!

Still a phrase used in our house frequently.
