I think there were a lot of long running shows on our screens over the years that limped on for far too long.

A case in point was That's Life, surely the ratings must have gone down in the latter seasons.

I gave up long ago after the dog that said,"saussges.2

"Happy Days2 was pretty awful in its later seasons and should have been cancelled long before.

"Generation Game" when Jim Davdson took over, awful, the show had dumbed doen in his clumsy hands.

One of the longest running sitcoms on us tv,"The Advetnures of Ozzie and Harriett.2 starring Rick Nelson and family must have looked very quaint when it was cancelled in in 1965. Seen a couple on the Life channel, very dated.

    Thanks Donna.

Have to agree with you about Rory Bremener, I got very tired of his shows being mostly satire.

I am not into politics and many of the imprersonations of policiticians used to pass me by.

Also used to get iritated when I saw him on chat shows, I am aware that viewers wanted to see him do some of his impressions but he would launch into them without any encouragment at all from the host.

Three Men and a Tin Bath - I watched it as a child and thought it was a wry look on second childhoods. It now appears to have become a laboured series of 'star turns' and any resemblance with the original programme is now purely coincidental.

My Family aka the Robert Lindsay / Zoë Wanamaker retirement fund.

It was beyond it's sell by date when they did the first episode, but they've kept it going for 8 years since then. It's a shame to see such talented people waste themselves on nonsense like that

Wanamaker admitted it wasn't very good before the last series went out and said that she and Lindsay were rejecting more scripts that they accepted for the series. Makes you wonder what the rejected scripts were like

BBC one frequently use it as a schedule filler, which is quite annoying.

yes some shows are jaded and even a good actor struggles with a done in script.

Why do some actors take on some scripts, its beyond me, surely they see how dire some are. even the witty, Victor Meldrew lost it too near the end. and became laboured

The last series had a lot of shortcomings, the humour got too dark and it got too surreal, I think David Renwick was probably under pressure from the BBC to do some more.

why dont the programmers put on two or three shows , give us a break then bring it back all fresh instead of dragging it out, the script writers must get jaded too.

well theres one thing we agree on at least . you could also say last of the summer wine but its better than my family because its at least its had a few funny moments over the years .heartbeat is a show thats went on longer than the sixties decade its set in ,if the charactors had aged in real time it would be around 1983 by now !
