Who remembers Bernard Braden's Saturday show The Braden Beat the precursor to That's Life Esther Rantzen cut her teeth on this show and Jake Thackray was involved.



Am I right in saying Ronald Fletecher also appeared and fulfilled the same function as Cyril Fletcher on Thats Life.?

I remember it.



Both Fletchers were involved. I don't recall which was which but I greatly preferred the first one.

I think Bernard Braden was dropped by the BBC after he appeared in an advertising campaign (can't remember what the product was), hence Esther.

The only time I ever see Esther these days is on that awful advert about accidents at work which is contrived to look like a chat show. In fairness to her she has done some good work over the year,but I must say she grates on me. I washed my hands of That's Life after the talking dog that said sausates.

It's lost in the murk of memory now but I think Braden was felt to have been *betrayed* by Rantzen, something to do with *jumping in coffins*............ but that's showbiz I guess.............



I struggle to imagine Esther interviewing Orson Welles...........

Bernard featured of course as a featured star with Patrick Mcgoohan, in All Night Long.............. His character was in fact the cause of Johnny Cousin's woes, as I recall.
