Strange thing is I think it's one of those records that never did particularly well in the charts (I love The Railway Children's Every Beat of the Heart, but it never broke into the Top20) but seem to capture an era.

Also, surely The Clash's I Fought the Law was a late 70s single?

Indeed, as was 'No More Heroes'.

Don't miss out on a chance to win a rare film in Bat-Quiz 13 closing date - 31/8/8.

I suppose the 80s new wave/electropop doesn't make good accompaniment to the action scenes, but they're tracks that fall in between the two series.

btw, I reckon this classic image partly inspired the Keeley look:

I thought she was very like the brightly-attired models who used to appear in Duran Duran and ABC videos.

Yes but if they played a late 70s single in 1981 that's fine, but if they played a mid 80s single then we could moan!

I thought the show was tired and predictable and a bit daft! As a sitcom it would be quite funny but as a drama it leaves a lot to be desired! They should've killed it off as Life on Mars and come up with something new and better!

Oh, sorry I waa forgetting that this is the 21st Century when we just cling on to nostalgia and remake everything!

Yes: the '80s was very much 'my' decade. I went to university in '83, and life had never been so much fun before (or since). For the first time in my life, I was in a peer-group with people with whom I had things in common, and was able to form solid friendships. The outside world may have been hostile and dark, but in our little bit of Fife, we built our own. I still love the music, and am still a sort of ageing New Romantic/slightly Goth-y type.

I though 'No More Heroes' was perfect for that boat scene ... it was the best bit of the episode for me.

That's the lovely Paula Hamilton in the picture. You could be right about KH's look ...

I wonder if we'll get some of those classics like Echo Beach by Martha and the Muffins, Turning Japanese by The Vapours and John Kettley is a Weatherman (can't remember who did that one).

Cheers Bats,

When I saw her I thought 'what's her name', A very beautiful lady who also benefited from having a 'Princess Di look' . I seem to remember the Volkswagon car adverts were ongoing, similar to Nescafe.

Superb stuff.

Apparently Ashes to Ashes features the Blitz club next week and Steve Strange will appear as himself singing 'Fade to Grey' which made me wonder...

Could the team perhaps investigate nefarious activities that require a visit to the set of an Altered Images videoshoot and featuring an appearance from the pixie of pop herself Clare Grogan?

I do hope so.

The last few bars of that clip sounded a bit like the intro to Enola Gay?

Wanted to like this, I really did. but - just like LIFE ON MARS - a terrible script and over the top performances totally put me off. A nostalgic medley of background music cant hide the fact that this is paper thin pastiche with no authenticity or genuine soul. Makes the SWEENEY look like Chekhov.
