    If it's the one starring David Morrissey & Sarah Parish then yes, I thought it was good stuff. But I wouldn't compare it in any way to The Sopranos except peripherally - there are crimes in both of them

    I mean that they're totally different. I wouldn't compare them at all

    I saw the beginning of the first episode and I thought it was absolute rubbish.

    Like modern Coronation Street but on a big budget.

    And with a totally different story

    Did you watch it past the opening credits?

    Yes, I watched half the first episode. Just a lot of "comedy Northerners" shouting at each other, and having "affairs".

    Yawn.

    The viewing figures for this series were very low, as I recall. Interestingly, at almost exactly the same time ITV broadcast a very similar series, with "comedy Welsh people" shouting at each other and having "affairs". Griff Rhys Jones was the star, but I don't recall the title.

    A word for the defence...... I really loved this series! The Blackpool setting (faded seaside resort) may be cliched, but it is very well captured. David Morrissey is menacing in a knowing way while Sarah Parrish is stunningly sexy as his lady. David Tennant gives a strong performance as an oddball copper. Yes, I liked it!

    Mine all Mine - it was brilliant, IMO - the best thing Russell T Davies has done outside of Doctor Who. It suffered from being up against Blackpool - an irony Davies is only too aware of. But it was nothing like Blackpool except that it was a humorous series set outside London.

    If you only saw the first half of an episode of Blackpool, you may well not have got as far as the songs which were really the whole point of it. Excellent series.

    I don`t know if you have decided to watch this yet Moon; but here is the opening sequence of the very first episode, the story continues being told with a mixture of dialogue and musical numbers performed by the actors such as this.....

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ74LePOHEI]YouTube - Viva Blackpool![/ame]

    It`s not to everyones taste; but worth a viewing IMO.

    So French Moon, your comparison is measured in Food and Drink. I could do with a Pernod right now but in Pigalle.

    I like to take a walk in the little park that is in the centre of the road there. I may look at what's on the menu there but at my age and Mrs B at my side I will have to settle for a pasta somewhere as we make our way up the hill towards Montmartre. Sigh!

    Don't be Sigh!, Bernardo, Pigalle's pastas are well reputated !!....and in Montmartre, Mrs.B and Mr. B can cross with some celebrities who live there (don't ask me who ...) , anyway, I do enjoy Paris.....

    There is an article in todays Daily Express which says that if Hitler had won the war he would have used Blackpool as R&R for his troops.Imagine first thing of a morning hundreds of deck chairs on the beach all with a towel on them!
