Absolutely!........a particularly fave episode is the one where Hyacinth is trying to impress her neighbour with her holiday brochures, which she pronounced 'broshers'!..........in one scene she answers the phone and says 'the brochure residence, lady of the house speaking'!

I drove past the Bungalow used in south-east Coventry once and took a pic, as soon as I eventually find it I'll add it to this thread.

I like 'Keeping up appearances'. Not least because a family joke is that when it was first shown my aunt and my nan rang each other and their phones were jammed, to say "I've just seen (my mother) on the TV " Not in looks, my mother is quite a pretty little blonde woman, but she is Hyacinth in spirit! (Result - rebellious hippie daughters! lol!)

I should dismiss it as paint-by-numbers comedy (episodes tend to follow the same old formula, catchphrases, etc.), but yes, I must admit I like this one very much.

My favorites are Onslaw and his wife. "Oh nice!"

I think you have hit it on the nail there,James. For me it is watchable - and Patricia Routledge is a national treasure - and far better than the other Roy Clarke vehicle,Last Of The Summer Wine, but I think we all know a Hyacinth Bucket don't we?

I watch the repeats to be amused I set the prog alongside Last of the Summer Wine, they never disappoint but fan is a bit strong. For character, as one time father of three students, the running 'Sheridan' joke immediately springs to mind.

Both Patricia Routledge and Hyacinth (who are interchangeable) are two of my least favourite people.

Not that keen on it myself, but am I right in thinking that the part of the tarty sister (I think she's called Rose) was played by two actresses? This programme seems to be repeated constantly, but whenever I've watched the odd repeat, it has never featured the original Rose. Now I may be going completely bonkers here, but is the original Rose actress now in Emmerdale as a woman who wears a funny hat? Maybe she won't give clearance for her KUA performances to be shown.

Shirley Stelfox - widow of Don Henderson - who plays Edna Birch in Emmerdale.

Has she got the power to stop her performances on KUA being shown?

If Sheridan had made an appearance, Julian Clary would have been suitable for the role.

I think it would have been a good story line to have 'Sheridan' make an appearance (on a break from University, once he'd finished helping Tristram with the Ironing!)

Maybe there were plans in the long term, but Patricia called an abrupt end to her role while it was on a high and without Hyacinth there's no more KUA, she said at the time she was a 'jobbing actress', and wanted to go on to other things

    I don't! Thank goodness!

Although, many years ago when I was working as a waitress, there was a booking in the name of Rodriguez, and when they arrived I greeted them by name, only to be glared at by Mrs. Rodriguez, who then said very snootily and in obvious disgust at my ignorance.... "It's ROD-r'gay, actually!" It was all I could do not to laugh. I felt like saying, "Not in Spain it ain't!"

I've made several attempts to watch this show, but, with the exception of one particular episode, I never lasted long. I found Hyacinth extremely irritating and it really annoyed me how her husband and next door neighbours simply let her run roughshod over them, and never stood up to her. Not my type of humour, I'm afraid.

The one exception was the episode where she and her husband went boating. It was hysterically funny, I thought. Whenever repeats are on, I look out for that episode. I've only seen it the once, and I'd love to see it again.

I must put in a good word for the wardrobe department though... Hyacinth always wore the most beautiful clothes, and for someone her age and with her matronly figure, she looked fabulous.

She did do a lot of other things, both before and after Keeping Up Appearances. Personally I think it's far from her best work. She's all right in that but a lot of episodes do seem to be going over the same ground.

Her appearances as Kitty, the agony aunt, on Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV were an early indication of her talent. Although she's been doing good work since the 1960s

Conversely, didn't she express disappointment when HETTY WAINTHROPP INVESTIGATES was discontinued?

    Thanks for the info, Marky.

I think I'm right in saying that in order for a prog to be shown, the broadcaster has to obtain agreement from all the actors involved. That's why The Professionals remained unrepeated for years, 'cos Martin Shaw refused to give his permission. It just seems odd to me that the early series of KUA is never repeated - I wondered if Ms Stelfox wanted to distance herself from the tarty persona, maybe that's why she left the series in the first place.

The first series has been repeated on UK Gold, I don't think Shirley has any inhibitions about what she's done in the past, in the Film '1984' she's completely naked
