The only time I've seen Dick Emery on TV is when the BBC show the film 'Ooh, You Are Awful' from time to time. As to why the complete shows aren't available on DVD, I couldn't say.

Just out of interest, have you tried to see if they're available on Region 1 (USA)? The only reason I ask is because for a good while, the complete Monty Python shows were only available on Region 1 while here in the UK (Region 2) we had to make do with just highlights. That has now changed, but I was wondering if it could be the same scenario with Dick Emery.

name='dubster75']i couldn't find any info on the site but i have been wondering why the dick emery show is repeated more on tv? there is the odd occasion where it is on g.o.l.d but never a full show. all in all there was i think 18 series but the only video or dvd to be released were compelations. does anyone know why the full series have never been released?

It may be a case of a lot of the shows being wiped. Just a guess, though.

One of the few times that I worked for the BBC, was during a phase when virtually everything on 2" tape was being erased and the tape recycled, regardless of artistic merit, historical record or public interest. You might find that that's where the Dick Emery shows went.

what about the few that have been shown on g.o.l.d, it shows that there must be a few episodes in the archives, why can't the bbc release all of what they have left? i also understand that the bbc did wipe alot of their stock but dick emery was of the same era as the two ronnies yet these seem to survive and be replayed on g.o.l.d and have full series dvd releases, so why not emery? are the bbc ashamed of the material emery made? i know alot of the emery material isn't very pc by todays standards but to think that the bbc still lets little britain get aired which sometimes does come across as very un pc and near racist it's crazy to think that a programme from 20/30 years ago still lays in the archives.

i will say now that i am not part of the pc brigade and never will be, comedy is to be enjoyed by all.

Lostshows.com suggests that the Dick Emery shows prior to 1973 are lost, except for a few clips. A few episodes are missing from the 1973 series, but apart from that, all the other programmes from '73 onwards exist in the archives.

I saw that, I guess the only hope we have is of someone finding some old export copies in a shed in Singapore or something.

Agree with your thoughts on this, Dubster.

I saw an episode of Dick Emery a while back and had forgot how good some of his routines were ("Hello, honky tonk!"). I think his comedy has actually lasted far better than many of the 70's series like "Love Thy Neighbour", "On The Buses", "Mind Your Language" etc and some of the other sketch shows like "Up Pompeii" etc.

I would be a customer were Emery's shows to be released on DVD - the beeb have released a hell of a lot worse!

According to this Avengers website http://home.scarlet.be/~pvandew1/ave...emery_show.htm this is Julie Stevens.

I don't know her name and she seems very familiar, but it is not Julie Stevens. Any ideas?

Click Sample Clip at the top left hand side.

    Many thanks!

I'd agree that's Anne Cunningham (Formerly Christine Hardman in Coronation Street) as Lampwick's daughter. I didn't know she was played by someone else before Helen Fraser.

The actress with the curly blonde wig is Rose Hill, who I remember best as Maureen Lipman's horrid mother in the Thriller episode File It Under Fear.

It's the older actress I was asking about, yes. Rose Hill? Great, thanks - I'll pass that on.

I was confident one of the experts on this forum would know.

100% Anne 'our Linda' Cunningham, Elsie Tanner's daughter in the old days of Coronation Street, in these Dick Emery 'Lampwick' sketches it was usually Helen 'Bad Girls' Fraser who played the daughter, maybe Helen wasn't available for this one.

The lovely Anne Cunningham who lives around our way. Often see her in the street on her bike. Doesn't look much different from the way she looked in 1972!

I don't know what's the matter with me. Of COURSE she was Elsie Tanner's daughter Linda. I've confused her with Christine Hargreaves (Hardman in the Soap) many times as they were around at the same time in the early years of Coronation Street. Not only that but Janet Hargreaves as well. She's best remembered as Christine Hunter in Crossroads, so naturally when Christine Hargreaves became a new name ...

Glad to be of help, Dandy

It's easy to confuse real names with character ones, Thelma Barlow who played Mavis Wilton nee Riley in Corrie has a real name that sounds like a Corrie character, though come to think of it I don't think they've ever had a character called Thelma in Corrie.

Linda Cunningham had a small part 'This sporting life' also as a Bride, I hate being pedantic but it was the character of Rosemary Hunter who was played by Janet Hargreaves in Crossroads, I have the impression she's still acting.

This goes from bad to worse. Yes, I do remember her name was Rosemary now and that she pointed a gun at husband David (Ronald Allen). The filming of this scene was featured as an outtake for many years in It'll Be Alright on the Night, as the gun wouldn't fire! For years I thought she was Christine Hargreaves, so I must have seen or heard the name quite often in the '70s and '80s. Very sad that Christine died fairly young.

Look out for Janet Hargreaves at 'Unnoticed Actors and Actresses', Mark. She will be one of my subjects soon on account of her blink-or-miss roles in Danger Man and The Deadly Affair.

I most certainly will cornershop. ........I'd be interested to see what Janet looks like in the 60's, I can only vision her in Crossroads, 'Megs' Crossroads that is, post Meg it was never the same, I loved Megs crossroads back in the day, wobbly sets, fluffed lines and all!

Poor Christine Hargreaves, I can recall reading of her premature death, I thought she was excellent in the play for today 'The Scroungers'.

Happy to oblige. Here is Janet from March of this year, at Memorabilia. She's still lovely and quite charming. We had a nice chat about local theatres in which we had both worked in the past.
