did anyone see this last night ? the whole thing looked a bit tired to me

we've had these find a popstar type shows for the last 10 years and i reckon its all went a bit stale .

there was the usual "ridicule a chav with delusions of talent" section interspersed with the occasional contestant who can sing but in no better way than someone in clubland can or an entertainer on a cruise ship can .....hardly likely to fill wembley stadium

itv need to come up with something new i reckon

There have been a few talented exceptions but the whole thing bores me so I`ve rarely seen any of it.

To be honest, at this stage there could be a great new show full of talent and Iwouldn`t tune in, these shows are too much and too many now, it would be ok if it was just the shows themselves but the hype and results are shoved down our throats too much, in the papers, on the radio, t.v programme advertising, scandle about the contestants from all directions (who cares?)

To me its just a cattle market, I couldn`t keep up with all these people who are `the thing to be in to at the minute`even if I wanted to! To have fame was once seen as being something special, now how many people are `famous`? Half the British Isle`s?

    Hardly a novelty any more!

I agree fg but perhaps its longevity is that it appeals to youngsters, all children like to perform and so a new audience appears every couple of years, to watch tv and 'perchance to dream.'

They used to throw Christians and other criminals and dissenters to the lions for the entertainment of the masses - give them bread and circuses.

But now they humiliate wannabe performers and throw them to the "lions" (the judges and the audience) to be ripped apart and destroyed - all for the entertainment of the masses.

i agree the people you see making twits of themselves have actually done two auditions the first wasnt in front of cowell ,walsh ,the geordie bird or kylies sister though . they get invited back for the second audition if they look like theyre going to make big enough fools of themselves .

i see similarities to the daily kyle debacle in that its about "baiting" and laughing at the chavs half the time

That's my concern. I caught the opening acts before hitting the pub on Saturday and two sisters (think they were?) just seemed there to be mocked in front of a live audience. I'm sure there's an earlier audition phase not in front of the fab 4 where people are rejected due to their lack of ability.

There is. It sounds about as pleasant an experience as waiting to get the last boat from Dunkirk

It was on the radio - an undercover journo applied for an audition just to see what the process was like.

Apparently you're seen by researchers for the first two times as a sort of filtering process. They apparently filter out those who can't genuinely can't sing and those who aren't of much entertainment value.

Get through that - and you're on TV! Because either you can sing - or you can provide entertainment value.

Same experience a friend of mine had, she went to Manchester for auditions mostly just to perform in front of the celebrity judges - but she was knocked back by a nobody (and rightly so as she's another pub karaoke singer).

Are the judges expected to see the tens of thousands that turn up to audition?

This is what we are led to believe on the TV.

    Does TV lie to us?

No, but why are some obviously awful singers allowed through the preliminaries? Just to be publicly humiliated?

in some of the episodes ive seen the people theyve done that to have looked genuinely confused including the eastern european sisters on saturday night .

a few years ago a lousy elvis impersontator they had on let the cat out the bag by saying something like " why did you invite me back after the first audition then ?"
