Default Unanswered: Russian Spy friends/neighbours

I'm trying to remember the name of (I think) an old British movie - late 60s/early 70s - in which a couple are friends with a family who live over the road. It''s set in suburbia.

The police one day arrive and ask if they can set up surveillance equipment in one of their front rooms, in order to watch their friends, who it is revealed are Russian spies.

Any ideas?

(my apologies for posting this in the wrong thread earlier)

This was the story Peter and Helen Kroger. Act of Betrayal, part of the Play Of The Month series in 1971. Here is the IMDb link
"Play of the Month" Act of Betrayal (1971)

The story of the Krogers was told in 1964s Ring of Spies and again in the 80s as Pack of Lies.

Excellent - many thanks. I bet it's not on DVD anywhere is it?

I reckon I saw it in the 1990s. Could this be possible?

Pack of Lies was released on video and Ring of Spies has been on TV a few times. I don't know if the Beeb ever repeated Act of Betrayal.

Yes Marc, I recall seeing it far later than the 1971 play, like you say in the 1990s, but can't put a name on those involved in the production.

Bit of a long shot but there is a sequence in "The Fourth Protocol" where the police and SAS led by Michael Caine knock on the neighbours door and ask to set up surveilence on Russian spy Peirce Brosnan and his female accomplice who had been living in the Brookside style housing scheme pretending to be man and wife. Caine does not tell the neighbours that Brosnan is a spy but to justify the commotion makes up a story about Brosnan being a murderer. That film was from the 80s.....
though Im thinking the earlier answers seem more likeley.

Judi Dench was in Pack of Lies in London, whilst Patrick McGoohan made his Broadway debut alongside Rosemary Harris, in 1985.

The TV movie version starred Alan Bates.
