Was in black and white and a comedy. Pretty sure Thora Hird was in it. Something about relatives doing things to get money (possible will).



Thora Hird (if it was her) has to go to prison and there is a scene where she is trying to shoplift something like a bead necklace.



At the end of the film it is revealed that there was no money and she laughs.

It sounds like Laughter in Paradise (1951)

But Thora Hird wasn't in it

I remember this very well. It's called Some Will, Some Won't (1970), a remake (in colour!) of Laughter in Paradise. Eleanor Summerfield was in both.

Sounds like I remembered both films but just got Thora Hird mixed up with the black and white version.

and in fact she was in the John Mills film the other day as the "wronged wife" discussed in another thread
