Default Unanswered: Can you remember this tv play

I slightly remember this play from the 60's
I think it was on play for today on the BBC
It was about a young man who was a racist, who would not talk to black people,
Then he wakes up and his face has been boot polished black,
And no one will talk to him, even his own mother blanks him, saying that she's not talking to any "darkies" and telling him to get back to his own country etc.etc

It sounds like the film Watermelon Man with Godfrey Cambridge.

However, I remember a b/w BBC play in which the racial stereotypes had been reversed. In this alternative 1960s white people were the discriminated against underclass and black people held all the positions of social and economic power.

Wasn't this repeated on BBC4 within the last couple of years ? I'm sure I've seen it lately, but the title escapes me at the moment...

White Man's Burden (1995) has a similar alternate world role-reversal plot.

I seem to recall it was written by John Hopkins, if that helps...

The BBC play was called Fable but I'm not sure it fits the description given.

That's the one, and it is a different scenario, maybe Grant Dee has got them muddled up.

I remember seeing this when I was very young and was quite upset by it I think. I think there was a blind man in the story, and the young man asked him how he knew he wasn't black. I also remember the young man being shot at the end by soldiers (?) after his face has been boot polished. The upsetting thing I remember was that his mother had told the soldiers he couldn't be her son because he was black, then they shot him.

Could it have been set in a cemetery?

Also, this couldn't have been on very late at night or I wouldn't have seen it.

Anybody else remember this?
