Would love to find an old tv play about a prostitute that travels on the uk motorway or trucking roads. She befriends a truck driver who takes her in looks after her and helps her go straight. It ends with her looking for the driver one night and she gets raped by a group of previous client lorry drivers & goes back to her old ways. (In black & white) and probably in the vein of: Play for Today, Wednesday Play, Armchair Theatre etc

The play was in the Armchair Theatre series and was called The Girl on the M1 and starred Sharon Duce and I think Roddy Macmillan as the driver who befriends her.

Well done, 716Jones. You are right about both stars as well. I have rarely seen them since Big Deal (Sharon Duce) and Hazell (Roddy McMillan) were on TV. It's great that those shows are on DVD but I would much rather watch this first.

    TVTimes coverage, 18-24 September 1971

Sharing the limelight here is forgotten sitcom Keep It in the Family, with Tim Barrett:

Co-star Vivienne Martin was in a couple of Armchair Theatre productions herself

21-year-old Sharon Duce and then husband Denis Munro were interviewed for the magazine's 'TV Talk' feature:

Around this time, future husband - and psychotherapist - Dominic Guard could be seen in cinemas as The Go-Between.

We're still waiting for the second volume in Network's Armchair Theatre 'series'. The Girl on the M1 was so close to being on the first, sandwiched between Detective Waiting and Will Amelia Quint ... when they were originally broadcast. Two others from the 1971 series made it to Volume 1, Office Party and Brown Skin Gal .... If there is a follow-up, I expect more Early '70s plays will be selected, hopefully including the subject of this thread.

Always enjoyed Sharon Duce's work, I particularly remember her in a two hander series with Duggie Brown which showed a couple in different stages of their relationship, was it called 'The House that Jack Built'?
