Soft Top, Hard Shoulder?
Hi,
This has been bothering me for some time. There's a British film i saw years ago on on tv and I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. Anyway it starts off saying something like "first of all this isn't London this is Nottingham" (could be birmingham but it's a town in the midlands) but anyway it they make a big thing of it not being london. It's about a group of semi down and outs and dossers and there is a Scottish character who apparently set off from Glasgow and broken down on the way so has pushed his car the rest of the way.
Been bugging me for some time. sorry I don't have much to go on the the car thing is pretty specific.
Many thanks in advance.
Andrew
Nope. although i'm pretty sure it's a 90s film. Very low budget job as well.
Possibly VROOM (1988) ?
Possibly. it's available on VHS on ebay which is no good for me, so i've bought a region 1 dvd off amazon from the states. I shall report back. cheers
I think it's Shane Meadows' film Small Time.
just ordered small time as well. my money is on small time. thanks
Just found this about Small Time: -
In his impressive debut feature, Shane Meadows stars as Jumbo, leader of a ragtag band of small time crooks, specialising in dog food heists and the sale of Eastern Bloc trainers, empty suitcases and non-existent musical instruments. "This ain't f***ing London, this isn't even Nottingham, man. This is Sneinton," proclaims Jumbo, highlighting the provincial focus of Meadows' work.
BFI Screenonline: Smalltime (1996)
It is indeed Small Time. It arrived this morning. takes me back. look forward to vroom arriving too. cheers
oh and it's a Vespa not a car. I didn't know what a vespa was in my teenage years.
This also sounds like another Shane Meadows film: "Once upon a time in the Midlands" with Kathy Burke ...and Robert Carlisle as the Scots guy. It was filmed just up the road from where I live.
