60s or 70s Movie of Betrayal and Murder

This could be a British film of the 1960s or 70s era...a cunning young guy (I thought it was David Hemmings but I couldn't find the movie by looking at his filmography) marries a woman who I think may be wealthy. After they build a lovely home overlooking the countryside (which includes a pool in the lounge room that has an electric cover that doubles for a floor), he murders her and hides her body in the pool...there is a twist at the end...I'm sure it's something along those lines. According to IMDb it was his second last film...but very close Timmy. He had a very unusual voice don't you think? You know l had been trying to find this movie for years...can't believe I've finally seen it again :)
