Title of film needed

Hi peeps
i'm new and seemingly incredibly forgetful, I watched a film some years ago that I thought was awesome but can't remember the title so I'm hoping someone can help?

The plot.

Its starts out with an undercover operation on a mob boss led by a fairly young cop, the film basically followers this young cop trying to take down the mob boss who If I remember correctly is Ill with a life threatening illness so it's a race against time to convict him and gets confession for a number of murders. Throughout the film are references to an undercover cop that illfiltrated the mob but died. Well it turns out this cop was actually the mob boss but had undergone a series of plastic surgerys in order to look completely different. The young cop ends up getting hurt and somehow ends up in the same room as this bent cop/mob boss and has the decision to as to kill him or just allow him to die without conviction.

Hope this jogs someone's memory as this is doing my nut in, thanks guys

Sorry I think it's probably about 5-10 years old but honestly would sway to 5 as opposed to 10.

Try Face/Off (click on link) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119094/ though it's not entirely a match. If this were a book, I'd suggest it was by Philip K Dick, so that might be another way to find it (lots of film adaptations of his work).

Nah not face off. It's a lot deeper and has a lot of twists in the story. Keeps you on your toes it's a great film. Desperately want to remember.
