Many thanks for the reply Maturin (named after one of my all time fave fictional characters, maybe?). It definitely wouldn't be the Jimmy Hill and I can't remember there being a song so I don't think it's them. I'm really just after the old man's name as it's one of those things I've tried to recall for years (on and off). Cartoon. Man in his Nineties -or just incredibly old. Big white moustache. Large flat cap. Bicycle clips. Possibly riding a penny farthing (not sure on that). Very slow and sure movements. Thanks again. |

This agricultral safety film may of been called simply ' Know your tractor'.
I remember seeing clips of it of a BBC farming programme that used to be on sunday mornings back in the eighties, also I saw the complete film at school while studying for my rural science GCSE. The 2 scenes that stuck in my mind are a tractor tipping over on its side while climbing up a steeply banked field ,plus a scene where a farmer stops his tractor on a steep hill and walks infront of it to open a gate, as he unties the rope securing the gate the handbrake fails and he is crushed. |

As engineering students in the 1970s we were shown various RoSPA safety films. One that always stuck with me was the poor person who got their hair caught in a drill and it ripped a chunk of their scalp out before anyone could hit the emergency stop.
As it was the time of long hair I always wore a snood when I worked on a lathe, mill or anything else with fast moving machinery Steve |
