Default Adventure in the Hopfields (1958) *solved*

I have very little memory of this film which I saw as a child. I recall it was about a family that went hop picking in the holidays. I recall at one stage there were children who were staying in (I think) a windmill, which caught fire, and I remember there was a china dog in the windmill. This film would have been made in the 50's.

Default Family goes hop picking

I recall as a child seeing a film about a family who went hop picking in the holidays, and I think at one stage the children were in a windmill which caught fire, there was a china dog which one of the children wanted to save. My memories are not very clear as it was made in the 50's and I was quite small.
Can anyone help or remember something like that.

Thanks, I can't believe anyone else in the world would have asked that. It must have been 50 years ago!

Rob Compton answered it in the other thread where Judy asked. It was "Adventure in the Hopfields", a Children's Film Foundation film, starring Mandy Miller. See Adventure in the Hopfields (1958)

I am blown away!! I can't believe it! I have only just found this website and within 24 hours I have an answer to something from my dim dark past. I don't suppose it would be possible to get hold of a copy??

It was thought 'lost but a copy has been found.

There is some interesting 'trivia' about it's re-discovery here ....

Adventure in the Hopfields (1958)

.... and I found this on a Romney Marsh online newsletter.

"The centrepiece of the evening was a showing of the only surviving copy of the film “The Adventures in the Hopfields”, supported wonderfully by a hand-picked selection of films plucked from the Movietone archives, including: films on hop picking and beer-making in Kent and East Sussex in the early twentieth century."

I would love to have a copy.

I tried but couldn't find out for certain who has the film.

Mostyn is a character in the film The Dark Man.

Barry Littlechild, a film historian and retired BBC producer, has the film. Please see: BBC News | FILM | Lost Asher film returns home

He has 'Film Night' screenings of the film to raise money for charity. There was one earlier this month: Demelza House Children's Hospice | Events in the Community

Thanks FinalCut, but I now have a copy of the film. Thansk also for the link to Demelza House, I will keep an eye out for future screenings by Barry Littlechild. What a really good cause.
