Default It Always Rains on Sunday (1947) *solved*

I'm trying to find a film I saw in the late forties/early fifties where a man is running across railway lines when the points change and he is trapped.

I thought it was British but may not be.

I remember that scene but think of the name of the film. You haven't imagined it.

I wish I had claws.

As well as 'It always rains on Sunday' (clever use of models there!) there is also an 'escape across the tracks' scene towards the end of 'The good die young'.

Other films that spring to mind are Account Rendered from 1957 with Griffith Jones, Honor Blackman and Ursula Howells.

The other one is Man Detained an Edgar Wallace Mystery film

I remember this scene as well. I'm pretty sure the actor is John Le Mesurier, which may help things...
