I`m gonna kick myself when someone tells me the name of this film, but it escapes me.

Two sets of neighbours are best friends, one with a daughter who has a boyfriend with a motorbike. One set of neighbours are spies and the other set of neighbours have to lend out thier house so that the police can watch them from across the street. It is devastating for the couple whose house it is to keep up the secrecy from thier best friends.

It is a Brit film but one of the women has blonde hair had either an American or Canadian accent and was in the film God with John Denver .

The name of the film is on the tip of my tongue but cant spit it out .

Is it Pack of Lies by Hugh Whitemore?

Based on the true story of Peter and Helen Kroger who were living in Ruislip when they were arrested as Russian spies.

It was written originally as a stage play. There was never a mainstream film made that I know of, though there was a US television version with Ellen Burstyn and Alan Bates.

This one was fairly clear, but sometimes they are more obscure in how people describe what they're trying to identify - and people do sometimes mis-remember things

The Kroeger case seems to have inspired more than one movie. I was quite surprised when I read there was a TV or movie film version about the case almost as soon as it had all first come to light

In real life the Krogers were second hand bookdealers and close friends of Frank Doel who worked at Marks and Cohen at 88 Charing Cross Road and had the famous correspondence with Helen Hanff.

The ironic thing is a lot of years ago I was in a stage production of this, I played the police woman

Leo Marks' autobiography is very interesting about 84 Charing Cross Road. Apparently it mainly stocked occult books and Victorian porn and Doel was part of an evil bookdealer price ring. He used to buy books from other shops to send to Helen Hanff just to qualify for the free stockings and eggs. I've never quite understood why she needed to order books from London - she seems to be reading fairly mainstream stuff (I can't believe it was that hard to find Jane Austen in New York in the 1950s)
