Default Answered: Some People *solved*

The only details I can remember are:

Possibly musical.
Group of teenagers, one of whom constructs a musical instrument, keyboard-type.
They play in a cafe.
A group of (?) teddy-boys invade the cafe and smash the instrument.

Not much to go on, but any pointers much appreciated. There was a very catchy tune which I had on tape but lost

TIA

It sounds like SOME PEOPLE (1962) which had someone build a musical instrument as part of his Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme - a sort of steam pipe thing - which was later smashed by a gang of teds.
The theme song SOME PEOPLE was sung in the film b Valerie Mountain And The Eagles and made the NME top 30. There were also 2 cover versions which also made the charts by Carol Deene and Jet Harris

I agree - sounds like it has to be "Some People". I have a copy of this - middling quality. If you're looking for one send me a PM and we can trade. There was also an EP of the soundtrack released on the Pye label.

Default EP details

from CHART ACTS Richard Anthony to Wayne Fontana

VALERIE MOUNTAIN AND THE EAGLES
“Some People” was a 1962 British film about young people going for the Duke Of Edinburgh Award scheme. The film starred Kenneth More and his wife to be, Angela Douglas who mimed to some of the songs, but the vocals were provided by Valerie Mountain. The additional music on the EP was by Bristol based group The Eagles (no relation to the American 70s band) who recorded a lot of material for Pye including covers of many TV themes, but they had no further chart success and split in 1964 although lead guitarist Terry Clarke hit the charts again as a member of Pickettywitch in 1970.
Valerie Mountain was also from Bristol and she had previously issued a solo single on Columbia in 1961 called “Go It Alone”, but there is very little information around on her subsequent career.
“Some People” proved to be a popular song with Jet Harris and Carol Deene also charting with their own versions.
