Default Unanswered: Eighties series

Anyone remember a series about a man who loses his job and pretends to still go to work every morning without telling his wife the circumstances. In the back of my mind am thinking might be the excellent Denham Elliot or Ralph Bates who was sadly taken from us early.D

There are several films with that plot, and a Peter McDougall play with Billy Connolly called Elephants graveyard. But a tv series ? Alas, one does not spring tae mind sorry.

No its not WORK, it was earlier than that and on ITV or BBC. It was an established actor who you all will know but will have to ponder on it.Would say 80s.

I don't know if this helps but I can remember a TV series about (I think) a newspaper or advertising agency?? in which a man is made redundant in the first episode and continues to pretend go to work. The twist was revealed at the end of the episode when it turned out that his wife knew all along that he was redundant as the man's boss had told her at the time it happened. The rest of the series was about others working in the company.

At a guess this would have been made circa 81-88, The man in question worked in a office (although according to tv adverts everyone works in an office haha), and lived in a quiet village with his wife.Agewise he would be late fifties and I can remember he would park the car and eat his sandwiches on a bench in the village out of the way.I think was about 4 episodes, was someone well-known, but it just eludes me at the mo.
