Default Identify particular film with alastair sim

What was the film, please, in which Alastair Sim played the part of a man who was trying to "rescue" or "improve" a young man/teenager who appeared to be going to be a wastrel. Sim was perhaps playing a retired schoolmaster. He was intolerant of grammatical errors in speech.

Can indeed. I suspect however that what you are referring to is not so much a film but a television broadcast that first appeared in June 1960 of Mr Gillie - the stage play written by James Bridie. The BBC was in the habit of making films of Sim's stage plays - but ironically, or typically depending on your point of view - today they know little about these productions (tapes being wiped etc). The young man was played by George Cole. Proof of this can be found in my forthcoming book on Alastair Sim - sorry about the plug - where there is a plate which shows the front cover of the BBC Radio Times for June 1960 when this production was recorded and broadcast by the BBC.
Mark Simpson - book available in June from all the usual websites/bookshops, published by The History Press.

Mark, I tried to order it from The History Press - but they haven't got any and refunded my money.

Has it been delayed or has it sold out already?

Steve
