I'm a new poster here, but I'm so impressed with the film knowledge of all the participants. I'm sure someone can give me the title of this movie for my mother.
The plot as she remembers it: two young brothers, possibly orphans, in England (or possibly Ireland) go to live with elderly relatives. They discover an abandoned baby in the woods and care for it, keeping it a secret from the adults.
It's not much to go on, but I hope this rings a bell for somebody.

Just found the title. The original movie is "The kidnappers" from 1953. There was a TV remake in 1990 called "The little kidnappers". It actually took place in Nova Scotia.
