Default Heist movie

I saw this film in 1973 has a first feature to Carry on Camping. The plot involved a crook trying to go straight (I think he was a barman) who is blackmailed in to doing one last job. His skill was to climb up the outside of buildings to get the rest of the gang in to open a safe indoors.
Following the robbery something goes wrong and the gang escape to an house on an isolated island where they take the family who lived there hostage. The gang have to stay there until the coast is clear or a new plan was made for the gang to leave. 'Our hero' learns the gang will to have to kill the family when they leave but he as fallen for a girl (daughter?) who lives on the island and changes sides so they could be saved.
It wouldn't totally suprised if this film wasnt English was just dubbed in to English but that must be my mind play tricks.

It sounds a bit like The Desperate Hours, which was originally made in the 50's with Humphrey Bogart. There was a remake with Mickey Rourke in the 90's, I think.
Probably wrong, but then I usually am!

Does sound similar but the film I was thinking about was in colour and looked like it was made Europe

I think this was a film called Hell is Empty aka Hell is Half Full with Anthony Steel, Martine Carol and James Robertson Justice. It was made in Czechoslovakia.

According to the IMDB it says a female thief takes her gang on the run to a desert island so I don't think it's that.
The main lead in this film was a young male actor with light brown hair and island in this film was cut off by an estuary. Having said that the type character actors in the film would probably be of the calibre of Anthony Steel.

It could well be 'Hell is Half Full' but I can't find a single reference anywhere. Unless it's had a title change it's vanished.
