No, it's THE PHANTOM OF LIBERTY from 1974. That scene, when shown on Barry Norman's "Film 74", was my introduction to Bunuel.

The people in the film are not eating on the toilet. This film shows a world which is the opposite of our 'normal' world, one where eating is regarded as rude and vulgar and is an activity that is done in private, whereas going to the toilet is regarded as a social activity and is done in company.

Does anybody actually own copies of ALL Bunuel's films? I've got almost all of them (I need three or four) but I've yet to find someone who has actually got the lot!

I have lots but not all the Mexican ones. Am missing stuff like SUSANNAH and THE BRUTE. But I'm not far off -- I should make the effort and get the rest so I can say I've done it. And then I should watch them, too.

Technically the set would be complete without THE MONK, which Bunuel prepared with Jean-Claude Carriere but couldn't get off the ground. Their script was later filmed.

The US DVDs of The Brute and Susannah are very poor quality ... I prefer my old vhs tapes!

The Monk is on Spanish DVD, I saw part of it on BBC1 (!) a few years back but not only did it differ greatly from the novel, but it seemed too sick to be pure Bunuel, whose sense of tastelessness always knew that too much doesn't work.
