Hello everyone. Not sure if this was fact or fiction - some men steal a suitcase which suddenly sprouts telescopic legs as an anti-theft measure. Driving me mad! Ring any bells? Apologies in advance if it's a really well known Brit film!

Yes, I saw something similar in one of those classic British 'B' movies I bought during the last year. I can't remember which one it was but I've a feeling one of the Houstons was in it.

Payroll, perhaps?

Terry Pratchett has such a "character" in his novels. beginning with his first, "The Color of Magic". there's a walking suitcase alright. I understand there are several TV and/or other low-profile movies made after his novels. it might have been one of them.

Thanks, this was'nt a walking suitcase though, 3 or 4 metal legs shot out of the case rendering it very difficult to move and also making it conspicuous. I seem to remember it activating itself in the getaway car.

Ah, the one I'm thinking about did not activate in a car. It was outside a building and prevented the snatcher from running off. I'm beginning to wonder if this wasn't a public information film I saw or even a spoof one inserted into a film or even a comedy sketch-show!

It's a sale's promotional film to aid crime detection from the sixties. A lot banks used to carry their money in suitcases for short journeys. With a increase in robberies this Heath Robinson device was pitched as a deterent.

It was definitely used in a feature as well .... I also remember it being activated in the getaway car.

It might well have been used in a film but I've never seen it. The clip I saw was part of a demonstration film and even included the obligitary patronising sixties commentary.
