Here's another movie that I saw as a teenager and it had quite an impact on me. The movie was an American made for TV movie called 'Snorkel', but I haven't been able to find any reference to it online at all. The story is about a man who snorkels across a bay every night to burgle a house. At the end of the movie, he is forced to hide under the floor boards of this house because someone disturbs him. However, while he is under the floorboards, a huge wooden wardrobe falls over and traps him under the floor. He ends up entombed with no way out of this grisly predicament. Incidentally, the movie had such a terrifying impact on me because, like so many people, I have a fear of being buried alive. If anyone has seen this and knows the actor or director or where I could purchase the DVD(if there is one?), then I'd be much obliged.

Thanks DB7 for the idea, but the movie was American and it was in colour; the Hammer movie, however, was British and in B&W. Also, the Snorkel that I saw was made later, say, circa 1975.

It's so close to the Hammer film. van Eyck slips into France (for an alibi) then returns by swimming along the coast and attempts to gas his step-daughter in a locked room by hiding under the floorboards. The girl is rescued just in time and swears van Eyck is hiding in the room - whilst searching for him they move a chest of drawers across the trapdoor he used to access beneath the floorboards.

They exit the house with van Eyck still trapped under the floor and his air running out but just as it appears he's in for a grisly death there's a reprieve.

It sounds like the TV movie I saw may have been a remake of the movie you mention as the story is very similar. Another thing I should say is that the movie I saw was entitled 'Snorkel' and not 'The Snorkel'. Anyway, the hammer movie sounds good and I'd like to see it just to make sure that it is/isn't the one I saw as a nipper. Thanks again.
