no its definately not mike bassett, its an earlier film, cheers anyway... i think nick hancock stars. the beginning of the film shows him telling the story of the football team and the film is basically a flashback of his story being told to the press, this film is such a gd film but i just cant remember the name, its definately mid 90's tho

more replies would be much appreciated... cheers

Well Nick Hancock was in Bostock's Cup (1999) which was made by LWT and is about a team remembering the time they won the FA Cup.

It's early 2000s as opposed to mid-1990s, but it sounds like Mike Bassett: England Manager.

Yes it was "Bostock's Cup". The soccer team was Bostock Stanley. Over on IMDB.com there is quite a bit od discussion about this play including some comments from the original producer. It seems that LWT (if they still exist as a company), have no plans to release it as a video or DVD, despite huge interest.
Personally I can't stomach Nick Hancock but the writing and the performances of the whole cast made this truly funny.

Ah Yes, the Soviet Union. All them wheatfields and ballet in the evenings
