One might brother drunkenly pitched at me last night. A series from the 70s/80s about a London gangster family in which the sister takes control?

Cool London Gangster Family

I think it might be "Fox",starring Peter Vaughn as The Father and Larry Lamb as one of The sons.

I don't recall the sister taking over though .... the 'Fox' clan (inc Ray Winstone and Derrick O'Connor) were very mucho macho.

It sounds a lot like Trevor Preston's Fox. The Sister, "Nan" Fox, got a bit of a say in the running of things after the father's death but I don't recall her taking over.

Well,DB7, if nothing else you've re-kindled my interest to the extent that this is now on my Christmas list

Could this be Finney (1994), which starred David Morrissey, Andy Serkis and Melanie Hill?

Here is a synopsis from a website selling the DVD:

'When his father, one of Britain's most feared crimelords, is murdered, Stephen Finney is forced to return home after years from the family business. As he tries to open a jazz club in the rundown movie theater his father left him, his older sister assumes control of the empire while his drug-addled brother orders a hit on a rival gang boss'.

More at the IMDB:

"Finney" (1994)

Yes - it starred Susan Lynch and Jason Isaacs as siblings in an Anglo-Irish criminal family, set in the 1960s, I think.

So it was, yes! But DB7 did say his brother was a bit drunk - maybe he mixed up his locations!

Hopefully he'll remember the title when a little more sober!

I wondered that but I've not seen it. I'll question him when we next speak.

That's the trouble with many of these queries, they're often a memory mixed in with bits of other films/shows.

I've picked up Gangsters on dvd (partly so I can watch it afterwards).
