Default Answered: Animation with War of the Worlds music

Am trying to find the name of some amazing animation I remember seeing in the 1980's on British TV: I remember being spellbound by the cartoon which was basically about 5-10 minutes of animation with the main theme from War of The Worlds (The Eve of War) being played with the action. It must have been broadcast about 1984 and these were the days before Manga and Anime became popular. The part I remember was based in space (I think) with explosions and action. One of the characters I remember looked very similar to 'The Thing' from The Fantastic Four. The filming was very fancy and almost like a Star Wars scene. Sorry if this is a bit vague but I'd love to see it again. I have a feeling it was broadcast on Channel 4.

There was a promo video made to accompany the original single release of 'The Eve of the War' - could that be what you're thinking of? I can't find the original version of it anywhere but Youtube has a video made to accompany the 1998 remix which uses the same footage - search for Eve of the War and you should find it easily enough (I'm not sure if posting links to Youtube is allowed here - I know some sites don't like it but if it's OK to do so and you're having trouble finding it I'll gladly point you in the right direction).

Well, Jeff Wayne wrote The War Of The Worlds, and on the IMDb it says tracks from it have appeared in three things, none of which are animated.

Jeff Wayne did write the music for an animated short called The Christmas Messenger (1975) but that doesn't sound like what you're talking about.

Thank you for your comments. Yeah I did look into where Jeff Wayne's music had been used and I'm baffled. I'm 98% sure it was"The Eve of War" theme. Maybe it was used illegally by another composer?!

If anyone has any ideas on this please it would be much appreciated.

I have an 8mm promo trailer put out by CBS records to advertise the double album.
It is animated, has a stereo soundtrack and features clips of the music including 'Eve Of The War' and 'Forever Autumn.

Kevin you're absolutely right! My memory must have mixed up a couple of visuals, but the original 1978 promo vid definitely contains footage that I saw in the 80's.
I'm not sure how to show that this question has been answered but kevin you go to the top of the class! Thanks as well Cinemal for your input and Paul, I totally agree with you, the re-mix on Youtube is truly awful!

Always a pleasure to help. And yes I agree with both and Paul about the merits (or otherwise!) of that terrible remix. Like remakes of films that were perfectly fine to begin with I've never understood the need to remix a piece of music that was perfect the first time round...
